Hi! IĀ?m racing with a YZF750R in The Nordic Classic Racing series (Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark). Trying to reduce weight on the bike during the winter and got a question for the forum members. Has anyone tried to remove the dampingrubbers inside the main frame? If You have, do you know the weight of them? I have to decide if ItĀ?s worth the effort to remove them!! Cheers

There was a chap in the UK who did it. He said there was some weight to be saved but it was a big job.

YEC frames don't have any so if you're trying to save any weight possible, it must be worth a go.

Ha, very good question. I have a 95 frame with adjustable pivot and would love to get them out - but how? They are quite heavy.

I cut small pieces and put them in different solvents. Acetone, ethanol failed, benzine made it soft and it increased in size considerably, so i assume it is EPDM or SBR based rubber. But of course it didnt decomposed. No chance to do this by chemicals, that do not attack the aluminium.

Burn it out,of course not. Cut the frame, not really. Would really hear how someone got this out without hurting the frame.

I guess cutting inside of the frame is the way to do it, even if it is a lot of work! Approx. How much do the rubber dampers weigh in total, will you gain 1-1.5 kilograms??
